Pain Between Stomach And Groin

Often people go to the doctor seeking help for hip pain. Sometimes, people try to treat it themselves. They are convinced there is something wrong with their hip and the treatments begin. However, one thing is for sure, hip pain is not always as it appears. Hip pain can be a result of a problem in the hip joint itself. However, it can also be a result of a back problem or a soft tissue problem around the hip region.

Obtaining an accurate diagnosis is the first step to resuming activities and living an active lifestyle. Let’s discuss the reasons for confusion and see if we can realize the causes and treatments for both hip and back pain. Some of a patient’s misunderstanding about the origin of the pain is due to not understanding hip and back anatomy. Sounds odd but it’s true. The hip joint lies just behind the groin area on each side of the body. At the same time, the spine runs from the base of the skull to the tip of the tailbone. The lumbar spine contains specific nerves that can influence the feelings in the region around the hip area.

Pain Originating in the Hip

When the pain originates in the hip from arthritis, motion of the hip is often limited. This limitation is often realized when attempting to get out of a chair or bed and standing up. Contrary to hip pain, pain coming from the back may worsen when sitting or lying down, depending on the origin of the back pain itself.

Symptoms Of Groin Pain In Women

The groin area is located between the lower abdomen and the thigh on each side of the pubic bone. Finding out the cause of left groin pain or right groin pain can be difficult because the pain could originate somewhere else. Very often, you will have other symptoms along with groin pain.

For example, pulled pelvic muscles or joint dysfunction can make walking painful. Many women find that the groin pain is worse at night or when they are taking part in physical activity. You may also find that you have shooting pains down one of your legs or have a tingling sensation in your lower back or hip joint.

If your pelvic discomfort is connected with your menstrual cycle, the groin pain may come and go during your cycle. For example, you may experience severe lower abdominal cramping pain before your period along with some spotting. Or, infections or inflammation like appendicitis or kidney disorders will usually just cause pain on one side of your body that radiates to your groin. You may also have nausea and vomiting with the pain and possibly have a fever.

Bulging Or Herniated Disc

Can back pain cause groin pain? Neuro Pain Consultants answer!

The jelly-doughnut-looking cushions between our vertebrae are subject to injury and overall wear and tear. As we age, they dehydrate, become stiff, and sometimes balloon out and irritate neighboring nerve roots. Traumatic accidents and sudden movements can also put too much pressure on a disc and cause it to rupture, protrude, and create pain. While herniated disc symptoms vary, people can experience shooting pain down their legs.

Just hearing the words bulging disc can sound scary for some people because many assume that it means that they need back surgery. But Dr. Rifkin says this isnt often the case in fact, a disc abnormality doesnt always mean trouble.

Most back pain is not about , he says. If you did spine MRIs on 100 patients over the age of 50, many would have disc problems, but no pain. So it is important to realize that surgery is only indicated for a relatively small proportion of back pain.

    Lower Back And Groin Pain

    28 November 2015

If you have a pain in your lower back and in your groin, then this article may be of interest. You may think that you have two separate conditions or problems, but these two pains, though they are in different parts of the body are more often linked or associated than not. This can apply even if one pain is quite mild and the other is quite severe.

When I assess patients in my clinic for groin back, frequently it appears that there is also an element of dysfunction in the lower back or hip.

Often the groin element can be what is known as a referred pain. This means that the pain is being referred to the groin from a problem or cause in another part of the body.

In my experience, if groin pain is a referral from the lower back, it tends to be one of four causes – so lets look at each of them in turn

If these muscles are torn, it can cause severe pain when walking, sitting, or sleeping. Treatment usually involves rest, physical therapy, and sometimes surgery to repair the torn muscle, if no other treatments bring relief from pain.

There is a possibility that you might simply strain your back muscles. In that case, the most typical pain pattern is less of a stabbing pain, but more of a tenderness sore area aggravated by movement.

A more likely condition in above situation is lumbar disc injuries. When people talk about different degrees of disc injuries, terms such as herniating, protruding, bulging, or slipped are thrown around casually and used interchangeability. They all mean a break in the integrity of the gel-like disc in your lumbar spine.

Sometimes tears form in the outer layers. Other times the inner content bulges out of the disc into surrounding tissues. The inner fluid content may also leak out of the disc and irritate nerve tissues.

Acute herniated disc has these common features:

Referred pain is usually felt in the low back area and tends to radiate into the groin, buttock and upper thigh. The pain often moves around, and rarely radiates below the knee. This type of low back pain is not as common as axial low back pain or radicular pain sciatica.

See What You Need to Know About Sciatica

Referred pain is analogous to the pain that radiates down the left arm during a heart attack. It is the result of the extensive network of interconnecting sensory nerves that supply many of the tissues of the low back, pelvis and thigh.

An injury to any of these structures can cause pain to radiate or be referred – to any of the other structures. It is important to understand that this type of pain is not due to pinched nerves.

Causes Of Lower Back Pain When Looking Down

    Pin on Groin Pain

The most common sources of lower back pain from looking downwards are soft tissue problems that have caused the muscles of the region to change in strength and length. We have seen contrasting causations providing similar symptoms in many different patients and each type of muscular concern can be created by a wide range of possible contributors. This fact can make accurate diagnosis especially difficult.

Injury to the back muscles can cause them to shorten and tighten. Since the entire back musculature moves together when the neck is flexed, this tightness can cause guarding and eventually pain. Luckily, lumbar strain will usually resolve without any particular treatment, as long as it is not a chronic version of RSI.

Muscular imbalances can strengthen, shorten and tighten lumbar paraspinal muscles or elongate them and weaken them, depending on many factors. The thing to remember about muscle imbalances is that muscles work as opposing sets for either mobility or support. When one set is much tighter or stronger then its matched set, it will pull the weaker set out of alignment, making these soft tissues even weaker and more stressed due to constant tension. Therefore, if an imbalance is the source of pain, it would be logical, since the typical symptomatic expression involves tightness, guarding and sharp pulling pain.
