Is Vibration Good For Lower Back Pain

What Health Benefits Does Vibration Therapy Offer

Whole Body Vibration Machine | Back Pain | Vibration Exercises to Help | Benefits

It only takes about 15 minutes for your muscles to benefit from an impressive, zero-impact workout that results in increased strength, stability, and tone. Other results from vibration therapy are increased blood flow and stronger and more flexible joints. Research has also shown that vibration therapy can reduce the production of the stress hormone, cortisol. Other benefits of vibration include:

  • Improved balance for older adults
  • Greater flexibility and a wider range of movement due to reduced tension and inflammation
  • Improved mineral density in the bones, which can prevent bone loss and common breaks in the hip or shoulder
  • Increased production of osteoblastscells that produce bone

Vibration Plates For Back Pain

Research states that vibration therapy could help people suffering from back pain, particularly in the lower back. A common cause of lower back pain is a weakening of lower back muscles caused by prolonged sitting, which tightens some muscles and puts stress on your back.

WBV has been shown in studies to strengthen many of these muscles comfortably, thereby improving back health. Using vibration plates releases endorphins which ease back pain and give you reprieve as you strengthen your muscles.

One study confirmed the effect of whole-body vibration therapy and traditional physiotherapy on postural stability in people with back pain. The study used a 2-step prospective randomized trial by evaluating the postural stability of 65 patients with back pain. They were divided into two groups, with the first receiving whole-body vibration therapy and the second receiving physiotherapy. Then, they compared the differences in postural stability between patients with and without back pain. Most importantly, the researchers looked at the impact of whole-body vibration therapy and physiotherapy on postural stability and the effect of depressive symptoms and pain.

Vibration Plates And Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis can lead to pain and swelling in joints. As a result, people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis lose the ability to carry out normal tasks, leading to reduced bone mineral density and reduced bone mass. BMD refers to the calcium and other minerals in the bones that keep them strong and healthy.

When it comes to treatments of rheumatoid arthritis, physical exercise is already considered an effective therapy. However, due to the lack of mobility, some patients may not be able to perform physical activities. Hence, WBV training proves beneficial for such patients. All they need to do is stand on a vibration plate. The machine sends vibrations through the feet, legs, trunk, and head. This acts as a great alternative to high-intensity exercises with minimal efforts.

Backing the benefits of WBV, a study of 31 female patients with rheumatoid arthritis was conducted. Here, one group of subjects performed 15-minute WBV sessions twice per week for 12 weeks. Another group carried out their daily life without WBV training for 12 weeks . By the end of the study, the researchers calculated the subjects physical activity, disease activity, and BMD.

The study showed that WBV training has the ability to improve fatigue levels and functional ability in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, WBV can also help in preserving bone strength.

Combined Treatment Options For Soft

Can vibration plates cause back pain?

Vibration therapy is often combined with other treatment options at our Broomfield office like massage therapy, stretching, and home exercises for optimum results but is also a stand-alone therapy for chronic pain management, accelerated healing and recovery. Chiropractic treatment is indispensable for soft-tissue injuries. Muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories and pain relievers do nothing to improve the outcome of an injured tissue, however, passive motion and vibration techniques increase joint mobility helping to relax muscles and give you the rehabilitation you need in a pain-free way. Putting motion into healing soft tissues with vibration therapy is one of the best ways to help injuries get the blood they need to heal quickly and properly. How your body forms and absorbs scar tissue will dictate treatment methods. Vibration Plates: Simple And Effective Workouts

Due to the alternating lateral movement of some vibrating platforms, reflex-triggered muscle contractions can extend to the back. The lateral alternation allows the muscles to alternately tighten and relax laterally.

The following objectives are at the forefront of vibration training :

  • Relaxation of tense muscles
  • Gradual reduction of back pain
  • Increased mobility in the neck, shoulder and back area
  • Increased flexibility
  • Strengthening of weak muscle structures
  • Improve mobility, strength and endurance

The vibration drive is particularly gentle, because the natural movement is imitated and the load on the joints and the disc is not minimal.

Can Vibration Plates Cause Back Pain

In recent years, vibration plate machines have gained traction in the fitness and health industry, as the devices promise to help people lose weight, gain muscle, and improve their physical health.

But like all fitness machines, vibration plates can cause problems for people who use them, especially if they have existing back problems. To understand how vibration plates can cause back pain, its important to understand how vibration plate machines work.

Vibration plates are designed to shake and vibrate the muscles groups of the body by using a system of weights and pulleys. When a person stands on the machines platform, the weights move, causing the platform to shake and the persons body to vibrate.

The vibrations are small, and should not cause pain.

Using a vibration plate regularly can help build the muscles in your arms, legs, and stomach. It may even help improve the flexibility of your joints.

But if youre not careful, it can also cause you back pain.

Vibration plates are often used for rehabilitation of structural back pain, but they can also cause pain, especially if youre not sure what youre doing.

As with any form of exercise, its important to use vibration plates properly to prevent injury.

No Bending Or Heavy Lifting Before Driving

With the increased prevalence of obesity and a sedentary lifestyle, peopleâs spines are less able to tolerate spinal loading. Repetitious, regular bending can cause the spine to suffer injuries. This is especially true when twisting is involved as well.

For these reasons, you should avoid bending and lifting heavy objects before driving to decrease the incidence of back pain. You must gradually train your back with exercise to handle loading. Strengthen the spine with regular exercise to lessen the effects of lower back pain from driving.

Vibration Therapy To Relieve Sciatica

Many vibration therapy devices exist. They work similar to foam rolling and stretching by decreasing muscle tightness and increasing flexibility but they have the additional advantage of vibration. Many high-level athletes use vibration therapy devices such as the Sidekick Flare Vibration Roller to recover, decrease stiffness, and restore range of motion. These devices further promote blood flow to the area, encouraging healing and reducing soreness.

For sciatica, you can use a vibration therapy device on your piriformis and hamstrings. These two muscles are the most commonly aggravated muscles in sciatica patients. And in many athletes, the posterior chain including these muscles is frequently tight.

For the piriformis, you can sit on the device and turn on the vibration setting of your choice. You may decide to roll back and forth on it or remain in one spot. Do what feels good for you and your body. Like foam rolling, you may feel a good pain. This is your muscles releasing. However, if it doesnt feel good, stop or re-adjust your position.

For the hamstrings, place the device on the back of the thighs. Turn on the vibration settings. And apply moderate pressure. Like the piriformis, you may choose to move or roll around on top of the device, or you may choose to remain in one spot. In both cases, youll benefit from using the device for a minute or more at one time.

What Does A Vibration Plate Do For Your Body

Vibration plates are beneficial to the body in a variety of ways. Numerous studies suggest that it can help with weight loss, back pain, fibromyalgia, cellulite, and bone density. Further research into vibration plates will reveal more benefits in the future, as more people become interested in using them.

Improper usage of vibration plates can harm your body rather than help it. As a result, users should still exercise caution to avoid complications. Staying on a vibration plate for an extended period can result in body pain, dizziness, headaches, and other conditions. The same is true for using it frequently throughout the week.

It is important to note that the benefits of a vibration plate do not become apparent in a matter of days or weeks. It takes months to notice the difference in your body.

Cause #: A Herniated Disc

How to Fix Your Low Back Pain (INSTANTLY!) – Dr. Berg

The spine is made up of 33 bones called vertebrae. In between each of these bones are shock-absorbing discs. These discs provide cushion for the spine, allowing you to perform movements without pain.

However, these discs can rupture or slip out of place. They may also become affected or damaged from degenerative disc disease. Over time, these discs naturally lose their hydration and become worn.

A herniated disc is where the jelly-like substance from the interior of the disc has been pushed out. Any movement or ruptures of the disc can place pressure on the nerves in the spine including the sciatic nerve. Consequently, you feel numbness, weakness, and tingling in your low back, buttocks, and legs.

Why And How Vibration Can Cause Back Pain While Driving

During vehicular transit, your body experiences vibrations along its entire length in both directions. Your lumbar spine typically has a resonant four to five Hertz frequency. Research has demonstrated that driving simulations can increase the standard frequency. The results then become vibration back pain symptoms that can increase the incidence of back pain and potential injury.

Numerous studies have consistently shown the correlation between driving and vibration back pain in the lumbar spine. Long hour driving and exposure to consistent periods of extended driving are high-risk factors for problems involving the neck and back.

Studies in Paris demonstrated that low back pain is more common for women after driving long hours. Your car seat design can help lessen the impact of vibrations and prevent your neck from extending past its bending limit. The car seat should feel comfortable to you once you have made the adjustments to fit it to your body.

A 1990 study conducted by Boshuizen, Bongers and Hulshoff monitored the effects of tractor drivers to see how vibrations influence back pain. They found the drivers had an incidence of back pain 10% higher than individuals not exposed to the vibrations.

How To Use Vibration Plates

Using vibration plates does not require any extensive adjustments or lengthy set-ups. You just need to plug your vibration plate into a power source and start your session.

There are two ways to use a vibration plate you can stand still while maintaining a series of poses or perform different exercises while standing or holding on to it.

The recommended time for using a vibration plate is 15 to 30 minutes per session, with 2 to 4 sessions per week. The vibration frequency must also be kept at a low intensity, although increasing the vibration intensity is possible only for a limited time. Remember that there are risks involved if youre using the machine more than the recommended time.

There are different vibration plates, and setting them up may vary from product to product. The only thing guaranteed is their functionality. Some vibration plates allow different levels of vibration and features as well discuss more in detail below.
