How to Fix Your Lower Back Pain for Good

Chiropractor Dr. Bradley Dahlager has a secret agent working in his Noblesville office: a topical treatment called Biofreeze that you should know about. Its a natural treatment for low back pain.

This topical pain reliever contains menthol, the active ingredient in peppermint. Menthol cools the skin and mimics an ice pack on your low back.

Dr. Dahlager will explain to you about how Biofreeze works if you ask him:

  • Special nerve receptors for pain in the skin lead to the spinal cord. When signals of pain are sent to the brain from the spinal cord, you feel pain. The pain signals are transmitted through C fibers and A delta fibers. Biofreeze sends another sensation coldness up the A delta fiber pathway. The cold signal inhibits the transmission of pain signals from reaching the brain on these A delta fibers. You end up with pain relief.
  • Menthol also binds to receptors in the skin that are sensitive to temperature, which release calcium ions that modulate pain signals through the bodys opioid system. This is similar to how ice numbs pain but without the freezing feeling!
  • Dr. Dahlager uses Biofreeze because it acts immediately. This is because it is easily absorbed into the skin. He wants you to be out of pain as soon as possible.

Is Stretching Good For Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is a popular problem that affects millions of people. If you have lower back pain, finding ways to prevent the condition from worsening is important. Stretching your back can help reduce pain.

Q: What Ingredients Are In Topical Pain Relievers And How Do They Work

BIOFREEZE Pain Relief Gel, 4 oz. Tube, Fast Acting and Long Lasting ...

A: Over-the-counter topical painrelievers often include methyl salicylate . Thisingredient gives topical pain relievers that minty smell and creates a coolingsensation when applied to the skin.

Methyl salicylate is often used as counterirritant, which basically acts as a distraction to pain points. Depending on the product and the other ingredients in it, these rub on treatments may also contain a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug . You know NSAIDs from medicines like ibuprofen and aspirin. When its absorbed into the skin it can decrease the inflammatory reaction.

Some topical pain relievers also contain capsaicin, which is a compound found in chili peppers and is responsible for producing awarming sensation.

Other products may contain menthol, alsoknown as mint camphor, which causes a cooling sensation and can trick the mindinto thinking that the skin or body temperature is dropping. In return, thiscooling feeling desensitizes the nerve endings. Like ice or cold packs, mentholdecreases arterial blood flow.

    Reviews From Real Customers

These shoes are like walking on a cloud. That said, Im having trouble getting them dialed in. Ive tried the inserts first on both feet then on the right only then on the left only and it just seems I cant get long term, as in all day, relief from knee, hip, foot pain.

Not all at the same time. Changing out the inserts moves the pain around and for now it just a matter of which combination is the most bearable. Im in no way faulting the shoes. At least I can make adjustments/alterations unlike a couple of other pairs of shoes I alternate with.

If bunions are your problem, like they are part of mine, the toe boxes in these shoes are a blessing. They definitely solved that problem for me. I recently started some pretty strenuous exercises and thats when my problem, knee/hip, pain, showed up on an on going basis.

But. my knees feel the best they do all day immediately after exercising. Im continuing to modify my exercise routings that now include knee pain exercises. It seems to be getting better but like always Time is the teller of all.

I would buy these shoes again and do recommend them.

This goes double for any sort of athletic footwear.

Chiropractors and physical therapists reveal their go-tos.

Raise your hand if you deal with lower back pain. When faced with tension or aches in that all-too-common hotspot, you tend to do whatever you can to find relief you know, so you can move without wincing. The thing is, there are so many causes of this discomfort and even more remedies to pick from that it can be tough to figure out the best lower back pain treatment.

Physical therapist and Bright Heart Yoga Studio owner Jackie Fenton, PT, DPT, 200 RYT says there are a few factors what she calls a perfect storm that lead to pain in the area. The first is not moving enough throughout the day. This doesn’t mean you need to do an extremely hard workout, she says. Instead, try to incorporate more movement: Walking is great, as is getting up to bend and stretch at regular intervals, especially if you sit at a desk for work.

The second contributing factor for lower back pain is stress, Fenton says, and the third is a sudden increase in activity after youve been sedentary for a while . Add it all up, and your lower back is bound to hurt.

To prevent back pain, it helps to move around and shake things off. But if the stiffness and achiness have already set it, thats when you might want to pop into a physical therapists office for advice, Fenton says.
