No doubt about that, a urinary tract infection. I would see a doc asap you need an antibiotic. Drink alot of water, it helps make it easier to pee.
This could be a symptom of a few very serious things, please see a Dr asap. Hope this helps.
There are several things that could be the root cause of difficulty urinating. Could be an enlarged prostate. See your doc as this is a major issue in some men and a few are cancerous. Two, you stated you have back pain. Your trouble may be with a nerve coming out of the lower spine that is related to bowel and urinary issues. See your doctor or go to the ER ASAP! These are signs of either a urinary tract/kidney infection or even kidney stones… I have problems with kidney stones and infections and these are the same symptoms that I get. You should also go if you notice blood in your urine… it will usually happen at the end of the urine flow. and if you are a guy you need to be checked for prostate problems because these are also signs of prostate problems , including cancer… Just get checked out right away… and I hope you feel better soon… good luck!

Chronic idiopathic constipation, which affects far more women than men, can be extremely debilitating. While it is normal to have a bowel movement anywhere from three times a day to three times a week, a person experiencing chronic idiopathic constipation has hard or lumpy stool that is very difficult to pass. Idiopathic means there is no known cause. Stool can remain in the bowel for more than a week and the buildup within the colon causes unbearable pelvic and abdominal pressure and pain, making it difficult to bend, sit down, have sexual relations, and even to walk. Other symptoms include poor appetite, back pain, and general malaise. The usual methods to relieve occasional constipation do not work for these patients. Convinced there is no solution for their illness, some of these individuals begin to withdraw from society.
As part of our patient advocacy work, the GI Society is conducting an ongoing survey for women with chronic idiopathic constipation regarding their experiences using Resotran, a promising newer treatment for this patient group. It is challenging to convince government decision-making bodies and others of the severity of chronic constipation, a socially-stigmatized illness, as many misunderstand it and trivialize the impact it has on a persons ability to function. While most individuals have had an episode of constipation that resolved easily, many cant imagine an unrelenting situation, and underestimate the seriousness of chronic constipation.
How Common Is Constipation

- Older age. Older people tend to be less active, have a slower metabolism and less muscle contraction strength along their digestive tract than when they were younger.
- Being a woman, especially while you are pregnant and after childbirth. Changes in a womans hormones make them more prone to constipation. The baby inside the womb squishes the intestines, slowing down the passage of stool.

Lifestyle Changes To Treat Constipation
There are three basic lifestyle changes that can aid in relieving and preventing constipation. They include:
- Getting regular physical activity. Exercising on most days of the week increases activity in your intestines. Be sure to talk with your doctor before starting an exercise routine.
- Increasing the fiber in your diet. Women should get 25 grams and men need 38 grams per day. But going too fast when you increase fiber can cause gas and bloating. So, gradually add fiber to your diet over a few weeks. Also, be sure to drink enough fluid as you increase fiber. Aim for 2 to 2.5 liters of water per day.
- Not ignoring the urge to go. When you respond to the urge, it reinforces the nerve reflex. Ignoring it can make it more difficult to go when you finally do.

You can try taking a laxative, too. There are several types of laxatives, and you can buy many of them over the counter. Each of them works in a different way to ease constipation. Ask your doctor or pharmacist which kind might work for you and how long you should take it.
Constipation Can Worsen Back Pain In Following Ways:
- In chronic constipation, the impacted fecal matter causes blocking of the rectum. The excess accumulated matter can exert more pressure on the internal parts. The blocked rectum and impacted feces can exert pressure on the back and cause back pain. The fecal impaction can also press on the sacral nerves of the back. When these nerves get irritated a pain response may be felt in the back.
- Additionally, the force exerted while trying to pass stools and straining can hurt the back muscles. If the back muscles are already weak or injured, the discomfort and back pain may be more. Prolonged constipation and straining too can eventually weaken the back muscles and cause pain. After a painful straining toilet activity, pain and discomfort may be felt in the back, around hips and legs.
Presence of constipation can worsen the pre-existing back related problems or back pain and cause more pain. Similarly, reliving constipation can have a great impact on relief in back pain.

- Drink two to four extra glasses of water a day. Avoid caffeine-containing drinks and alcohol, which can cause dehydration.
- Add fruits, vegetables whole grains and other high-fiber foods to your diet. Eat fewer high-fat foods, like meat, eggs and cheese.
- Eat prunes and/or bran cereal.
- Keep a food diary and single out foods that constipate you.
- Get moving, exercise.
- Check how you sit on the toilet. Raising your feet, leaning back or squatting may make having a bowel movement easier.
- Add an over-the-counter supplemental fiber to your diet .
- If needed, take a very mild over-the-counter stool softener or laxative . Mineral oil enemas, like Fleet®, and stimulant laxatives, like bisacodyl or senna , are other options. There are many laxative choices. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for help in making a choice. Do not use laxatives for more than two weeks without calling your doctor. Overuse of laxatives can worsen your symptoms.
- Do not read, use your phone or other devices while trying to move your bowels.
