Chiropractic Solution For Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction and Lower Back Pain

Any subluxation of the spine increases the pressure on the nerves, which directly affects your sexual health, leading to problems such as erectile dysfunction , impotence, and premature ejaculation in men. Chiropractic care works to correct the cause of all nervous system dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction. When there is a subluxation in the spine, the nerve signals from the brain get blocked or diminished, causing havoc with the body’s ability to function normally.

Chiropractic adjustments correct and eliminate subluxations restoring proper nerve flow and normal function. By removing the subluxations, chiropractic care improves the functionality of the nerves that flow into the sex organs, increasing the blood flow into the penis for men. In addition to decreasing physical issues related to ED, chiropractic treatment can also improve psychological concerns that contribute to erectile dysfunction and minimize symptoms altogether.

Pinched Nerves And Erectile Dysfunction

The pudendal nerve allows you to have sensation in your genitalia and the surrounding area, so its pretty important. Obviously, damage to this crucial nerve can cause ED, loss of sexual interest and many other problems.

And this nerve has a unique relationship with the lumbar spine.

Its known that lumbar spine inflammation can cause pain in the lower back. And its known that nerve inflammation can cause the same kind of pain.

So couldnt people with lower back pain actually have ED as a symptom of it?

Some experts do suggest that the back pain and erectile dysfunction are often symptoms of nerve inflammation. Solve the inflammation, then, and solve both problems.

When the pudendal nerve is involved it can become entrapped

This condition is called Alcock Canal Syndrome, where the pudendal nerve becomes compressed, which can lead to chronic numbness in the penis, scrotum and testicles.

And there are many other kinds of nerve issues that can impact your sexual health as well.

One study found a connection between peripheral nerves and diminished genital sensation.

Looking at a group of amateur long-distance cyclists, researchers found that of 260 cyclists examined, 33 had numbness in their penises after riding long distances and they linked this to a nerve issue .

Astoundingly, 21 of the men were temporarily impotent after riding their bikes 11 of them for more than a week.

What Is Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that prevents men from getting erections. Normally, an erection occurs when the senses register some form of sexual stimulation. The muscles of the penis relax and increase blood flow to the area the blood pushes then against the veins carrying the blood out and blocks them. However, if the flow of blood in the body is being disrupted or hindered in any way, then this process cant take place, resulting in erectile dysfunction. Thus, men suffering from this condition are typically also experiencing problems with veins and nerves elsewhere in their bodies.

How Does This Happen

The question that I often get in my office is, how did this happen to me? More and more Im talking to people about how much sitting they are doing. Whether its at work, in the car, on the couch or at the dinner table, we are sitting for more hours than ever.

Most people assume that spinal problems only happen with car accidents, sports or work injuries. But more commonly we are seeing daily lifestyle habits contribute significantly to spinal imbalance and nerve system problems.

Can A Pinched Sciatic Nerve Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Back Pain Causes

If youve enjoyed a healthy sex life up until this point, but you or your partner suddenly have erectile dysfunction, a pinched sciatic nerve could well be the culprit.

Luckily though, the chances are you can breathe a big sigh of relief. It isnt forever because Physical Therapy can usually restore proper function by finding and treating the root cause.

Impotence and the inability to get or maintain an erection can have a massive impact on mens mental health. It can affect your self-esteem and the quality of your relationships. It can trigger episodes of anxiety and depression, so its essential to seek help and not suffer in silence.

According to The American Journal of Medicine:

erectile dysfunction affects over 18 million men in the US or 18.4% of the male population aged 20 years or older.

So, its not something you should be embarrassed or ashamed about. There are many different causes of erectile dysfunction too. For one man, it could be diabetes or high cholesterol. In contrast, for another, it could be smoking or a sleep disorder. More surprisingly, however, some men experience not getting or maintaining an erection due to a problem relating to the sciatic nerve.

But what is the sciatic nerve, and what does it have to do with male sexual function?

Tight Hip Flexors And Ed

Do you know where your psoas are?

These muscles run from your lumbar spine through your groin and into your hip.

Sometimes simply called hip flexors, its no wonder these muscles can cause ED since they can become tight and cause compression in your groin area.

That compression can lead to reduced blood flow and other problems.

Dont believe thats possible? The famed Mayo Clinic lists surgeries or injuries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord as one of the common causes of ED.

Sitting down may be the worst thing in the world for tight, painful hip flexors.

Sitting causes your hips to shift forward and your legs to rotate. The hip socket gets compressed, causing all sorts of tendons, joints and muscles to pull in ways they shouldnt.

That makes your back hurt. It makes your hips hurt. It makes your legs hurt.

And it decreases blood flow and circulation in all those areas including your groin.

Consistently tight and overworked hip flexors mean permanent roadblocks for back, hip and leg health and for sexual health too.

The pain and problems cause you emotional and physical stress, and that sends a signal to your brain that somethings wrong.

Your reproductive system gets the message too.

And since hips are really important for most guys when having sex, losing the ability to flex your hips correctly can lead to a less satisfying experience.

Back Pain Hardly Conducive To Sex

Lower back pain can ruin the mood when it comes to sex.

As previously noted, chronic low back pain can lead to erection problems in men. However, both men and women who experience acute episodes of lower back pain may find it difficult to get excited sexually, wincing at the very thought of how sexual activity might aggravate the pain theyre already enduring.

This relationship between back pain and sexual dysfunction makes it important for those with chronic back pain to discuss their concerns with their sexual partners and their doctors as well. Sexual dysfunction related to back pain is probably more common than physicians think and for patients to admit to, according to Michael R. Marks, M.D., a spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In an interview with WebMD.com, he said he makes it a practice to routinely quiz his back pain patients about the impact of the disability on their sex lives.

Interconnectedness Of Bodily Structures

When one considers the interconnectedness of all the structures and organs of the human body, it becomes somewhat easier to see how problems in one area can quickly turn into problems for other areas too.

In an article posted at HealthCentral.com, California physiatrist Christina Lasich, M.D., a specialist in pain management and spine rehabilitation, cites a recent study of men under 50 with lumbar spine disease. More than one-third of those men, relatively young in age, suffered from erectile dysfunction too.

Physiatry, for those unfamiliar with the term, is a medical discipline that seeks to restore and enhance functional ability and quality of life to people suffering from physical disability or impairment.

Why Chiropractic Is The Best Solution For Ed

Because chiropractic aims to correct the root cause of all nervous system dysfunction, it is an excellent method for improving erectile dysfunction. It can not only decrease physical issues related to the condition, but it can also improve psychological concerns that contribute to it and can minimize symptoms altogether.

Studies are ongoing regarding the efficacy of chiropractic care for treating ED, but one study from a few years ago has shown extremely promising results. A 53-year-old man began chiropractic care for long-term lower back pain. Within just a few weeks, he saw substantial improvement in his back pain as well as his erectile dysfunction.

How Do Couples Cope With Ed

Back Pain & Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Culver City, CA ...

Erectile dysfunction can cause strain on a couple. Many times, men will avoid sexual situations due to the emotional pain associated with ED, causing their partner to feel rejected or inadequate. It is important to communicate openly with your partner. Some couples consider seeking treatment for ED together, while other men prefer to seek treatment without their partner’s knowledge. A lack of communication is the primary barrier for seeking treatment and can prolong the suffering. The loss of erectile capacity can have a profound effect on a man. The good news is that ED can usually be treated safely and effectively.

Feeling embarrassed about sexual health problems may prevent many men from seeking the medical attention they need, which can delay diagnosis and treatment of more serious underlying conditions. Erectile Dysfunction itself is often related to an underlying problem, such as heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, or other medical conditions.

Since ED can be a forewarning symptom of progressive coronary disease, doctors should be more direct when questioning patients about their health. By asking patients more directly about their sexual function through conversation or a questionnaire during a checkup, doctors may be able to detect more serious health conditions sooner.

What Are The Risk Factors For Erectile Dysfunction

According to the NIH, erectile dysfunction is also a symptom that accompanies many disorders and diseases.

Direct risk factors for erectile dysfunction may include the following:

  • Prostate problems

  • Many chronic diseases, especially renal failure and dialysis

  • Smoking, which exacerbates the effects of other risk factors, such as vascular disease or hypertension

Age appears to be a strong indirect risk factor in that it is associated with increased likelihood of direct risk factors, some of which are listed above.

Accurate risk factor identification and characterization are essential for prevention or treatment of erectile dysfunction.

How Can Tight Muscles Result in Back Pain: ROOT CAUSE EXPLAINED

Despite the high incidence of erectile dysfunction among men with chronic back pain, many of them still relatively young, the link between back pain and ED has not attracted the research attention it deserves, according to Lasich. She says that many lay people theorize the ED among back pain sufferers is caused somehow by hormonal imbalances, such as those caused by long-term opioid use to manage pain. She points out, however, that low blood levels of testosterone are not known to cause ED.

Rather, Lasich suggests, the link between spinal problems and ED is more likely to arise from problems related to the nervous system. She points out that erectile function is controlled by two different nerve centers in the spine: the parasympathetic input from the sacrum and the sympathetic input from the thoracic-lumbar pathway. Any damage to the these areas of the spine, whether traumatic or because of neglect, can lead to sexual dysfunction.

What Is The Pelvic Floor

The pelvic floor is made up of muscles and connective tissue, called fascia, Ryan explains. The muscle and fascia form several intertwining loops that support the pelvic organs.

The pelvic floor muscles act as a trampoline to support the organs, and as downward pressure is pressed on it, if its working properly, it will push back up to support the muscles.

One of the pelvic floors main functions

Pelvic floor muscles create the base of the muscles otherwise known as ones core. These core muscles work to support the abdomen, diaphragm, and back muscles, where they support the spine. Its no wonder that back pelvic pain is fairly prevalentthe muscles are very much interconnected.

Managing Erectile Dysfunction Linked To Lower Back Pain

It all starts with admitting to the problem. FILE PHOTO | NMG

Our bodies are a complex structure of connected parts that can either work well together or cease to function properly when one area is affected. When your back hurts, you do not feel like having sex. Men suffering from both back pain and erectile dysfunction may be surprised to find out that the back pain could be causing the erectile dysfunction commonly referred to as ED. It is always a concern when that happens.

The process of getting an erection begins when something sexually stimulating impacts the senses, making the muscles of the penis relax and blood flow increases to the area which then pushes against the veins carrying blood out so that they are blocked and thus an erection is created. Erectile dysfunction is then usually caused by blood flow being disrupted, slowed or hindered throughout the body.

Back issues can cause ED when veins and nerves are pinched, leading to less blood flow to the pelvic area. Several causes of back pain that can cause ED include:
