The Symptoms Are Consistent With A Potential Pinched Nerve
The spinal structure provides tight quarters for the nerves, spinal discs, cartilage, and other structural components. When a disc bulges out of place or another structure intrudes on the space naturally filled by a nerve, that nerve is pinched. It isnt able to effectively send and receive messages to maintain communication with the brain. A pinched nerve is one of the leading causes of lower back pain.
Nerve pain is typically sharp and may get worse with certain types of movement. Many patients also report numbness, and others experience the sensation of needles prickling their skin from within. Since nerves run from the lower spine into the legs, its possible to feel pain in the legs or numbness in the feet.
Since the nerve is often pinched by bone or other hard tissue, chiropractic treatment is often effective. A chiropractor will identify the cause of the pinched nerve and work to reposition the interfering bone, ease tension from tight muscles, and otherwise manipulate the body so that the nerve has more room to function properly.

In some cases, the pain will persist for longer than three months and become a chronic condition. For patients with chronic back pain, a more in-depth care plan is needed to ultimately improve the patients quality of life and restore their ability to perform and enjoy everyday activities.

Benefits Of Spinal Decompression For Your Lower Back:
Many patients notice a dramatic decrease in their pain levels after undergoing spinal decompression.
Spinal decompression helps to space out your vertebrae, creating a negative pressure in the disc and alleviating pressure off the nerves exiting the spine. This helps to reduce nerve pain which can cause numbness and tingling.
Decompression treats your area of concern and helps promote motion in your joints, allowing your muscles to relax, resulting in finally feeling relief.
Increased mobility: As your nerve pain decreases and your muscles get looser, you will notice that you will now be able to move more freely and without pain.

What To Expect If You Visit A Chiropractor
When you first visit a chiropractor for lower back pain, you can expect your first consultation to include the following 3 initial steps
1. Consultation. Youll be asked what hurts, where it hurts and what makes the pain feel better or the pain feel worse.
2. Your History. As well as your job, you may be asked about your family history, other injuries/ treatments that youve had and your diet.
3. Physical Tests. You may be asked to perform a variety of movements so the chiropractor can assess the range of motions available to you and how stable you can perform them.
4. X-Ray. It is possible that they may even ask for an e-ray to be carried out, while they try to assess the true position of the vertebrae in your spine.
The purpose of this pre-assessment is to identify areas of the spine that may have altered for specific focus during the chiropractic adjustment.

Efficacy Of Spinal Manipulation For Low Back Pain Has Not Been Reliably Shown
EditorIn their editorial Ernst and Assendelft refer to a review by Shekelle et al, which concludes that spinal manipulation is of short-term benefit in some patients, particularly those with uncomplicated, acute low-back pain. Ernst and Assendelft point out that this work did not contain a single trial of chiropractic. The references in the review by Shekelle et al do in fact include chiropractic trials. The second reference listed is the trial by Meade et al.
The second paragraph of the editorial refers to a review by Assendelft et al of eight randomised controlled trials of chiropractic treatment. This review concludes that the eight trials provide no convincing evidence for the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for acute or chronic low back pain. Therefore, readers are left with the impression that chiropractic treatment is less effective than manipulation in general. Had the authors included a seventh reference to their own worka review of spinal manipulation for low back pain published in the same year as the review of the chiropractic trialsit would have changed readers impression altogether. This document reviews 36 randomised clinical trials comparing manipulation with other treatments and concludes that the efficacy of spinal manipulation for patients with acute or chronic low back pain has not been demonstrated with sound randomised clinical trials.
These inaccuracies show that one can never be too critical when reading published material.

Visiting A Chiropractor For Back Pain
Chiropractic care first became a treatment option in 1895. D.D. Palmer had a friend with deafness in one ear. Noticing a vertebrae out of place, Palmer adjusted his friend and restored his hearing. Palmer had also had success in treating a friend with cardiovascular issues before, noting:
I had a case of heart trouble which was not improving. I examined the spine and found a displaced vertebra pressing against the nerves, which innervate the heart. I adjusted the vertebra and gave immediate relief nothing accidental or crude about this. Then I began to reason if two diseases, so dissimilar as deafness and heart trouble, came from impingement, a pressure on nerves, were not other disease due to a similar cause? Thus the science and art of Chiropractic were formed at that time.
D.D. Palmers legacy continues at a school created in his name. Palmer College of Chiropractic believes that many conditions can be treated with chiropractic, but there are other chiropractic colleges that incorporate traditional treatments in a more holistic manner.
